About Us
Founded in 1985, by Bishop Johnny Johnson the State Superintendent for the Church of God in Christ
reformation. The church was formerly known as Barnwell Mission where the Elder Walter Robinson became the church
pastor under the supervision of Bishop Johnny Johnson. The church address at that time was 2109 Calhoun Street, but
was later change to 179 Calhoun Street. Elder Walter Robinson served the Barnwell area from 1985 - 1986 before he
was called to start a church in Orangeburg, SC, and Barnwell Mission was then under the leadership of Elder Isaac Moultrie
who served from 1986 - 1987. Elder Moultrie ministered the Word of God at Barnwell Mission until he was later called
to start a church in the Orangeburg area.
After a year of having none to minister the Word of God in the Barnwell
area, Bishop Johnny Johnson began to seek other sources for direction, only to find Minister Belton Williams willing
to take on the challenge of serving in the Barnwell area. Minister Williams immediately changed the name of the
church from Barnwell Mission to Greater Faith. Since March of 1988 to the present day, Elder Belton Williams has been
serving faithfully in the Barnwell community and church.
In 1993, Elder Belton Williams changed the name from Greater Faith to Greater Faith Ministries Incorporated,
because of the adequate spiritual growth and development of the church members. Elder Belton Williams’ pastorate, over
1000 souls have been saved and 150 members have been added to the church roster. We have Bible study classes for adults on
Wednesday nights and in addition, there are evangelistic classes for our children and youth, ages pre-school through teens.
Also, a comprehensive Christian Education Programs has been established which provides tutorial assistant for
children after school and during the summer months. We have a six week orientation training class for all added members.
Greater Faith Ministries church has always stood at the forefront of service to the community. Its history
is rich with many men and women who have responded to the call of service. The church today has grown and expanded. The
outpouring of the Holy Spirit has given us a committed group of church leaders, members as well as other ministers to the
needs (spiritual, emotional, physical and mental) of our church family and the community. God has moved in a mighty way to
work through us and others to develop more than forty ministries of helps and services that are community related which also
includes a full-fledged social service program.
For the past fifteen years, the principal leaders of the church has been:
1985 - 1985 Bishop Johnny Johnson
1985 - 1986 Elder Walter Robinson
1986 - 1987 Elder Isaac Moultrie
1988 - Present Elder Belton Williams
The vision of Greater Faith Ministries embraces a rich and abundant life for all its members both now and in the days
to come.
